Incheon Airport and Global Leading Airports Unite for Baggage Innovation Initiative

Incheon International Airport Corporation (President Hag Jae Lee) announced on June 24th that it participated in the Future Travel Experience(FTE) Baggage Innovation Expert Group Forum in Dublin, Ireland, on the 12th. During the Forum, it jointly launched the ‘Baggage Innovation Collaboration program’ with leading global airports such as Schiphol Airport.

The newly launched cooperative program, ‘Boost’ aims to facilitate the exchange of processes and outcomes in technological development and innovation projects among airports like Incheon Airport. This collaboration intends to shorten development times and advance future baggage handling technologies.
Key stakeholders from participating airports including Incheon Airport, Schiphol Airport and Avinor Airport attended the launch ceremony. They collectively signed an agreement focusing on the roles of the collaborative program, methods for technology and information exchange, and utilization of intellectual property.
Representatives from Incheon Airport Corporation, including Director Geumam Park from the Mechanical Facilities Department, attended the event. Following the signing ceremony, the Corporation presented plans for a large-scale automated baggage handling robot system during the innovation project sessions, garnering significant attention.

The system being developed by the Corporation involves robots transferring large baggage using baggage handling devices, aiming to reduce the workload for baggage handlers and improve operational efficiency.
Starting from this launch ceremony, participating airports plan to enhance mutual cooperation through initiatives such as establishing baggage innovation roadmaps, developing innovation projects, and exchanging technologies.
The Corporation anticipates that its participation in this cooperative program will accelerate collaboration with leading global airports in the field of baggage handling, thereby expediting the introduction of innovative technologies and digital transformation efforts in baggage handling.

Hag jae Lee, Presient & CEO of IIAC stated, "Building upon Incheon Airport's world-class baggage handling accuracy, we plan to strengthen cooperation with leading airports worldwide and drive innovation technology introduction. Through this, we aim to provide stable airport services to the public while leading global standards in airport operations."

Meanwhile, Incheon Airport boasts the world's highest baggage handling accuracy, with a mishandled baggage rate of 1.62 per million items, significantly lower than the global airport average of 6.1, according to a 2023 report by SITA, a global airline IT company.
