Things to note when traveling with pets in the airport

Scope

Applicable to pets (i.e. cats, dogs excluding dangerous breeds under the Animal Protection Act, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits) pursuant to the Animal Protection Act and the Enforcement Rule thereof.
Other live animals (including dangerous dog breeds under the Animal Protection Act) can only be accompanied for arrival/departure, and are required to be kept in kennels.

Instructions
  • Make sure that your pet is wearing an ID tag with the owner's name, contact information, and animal registration number.
  • You can accompany your pet if you use a kennel.
    - While a leash (around 50 cm) or stroller is allowed for unavoidable circumstances, we recommend using a kennel to ensure safety for other passengers and comfort in the airport (excluding dangerous dog breeds).
    - Try not to use the elevator if possible, or make sure to use a kennel or hold your pet when in an elevator.
    * An exception is allowed when you enter while holding your pet less than 3 months old.
  • You can accompany your pet when you keep your pet leashed at 50 cm in length or use a stroller.
    * An exception is allowed when you enter while holding your pet less than 3 months old.
Other
  • Make sure to immediately pick up and dispose of your pet's waste.
  • Make sure that your pet does not make others feel uncomfortable or unpleasant, such as by barking.

Please note that you may be not allowed to use the airport if you do not comply with the instructions or cause discomfort to other passengers in the airport.

Guide for accompanying pets in Incheon Airport

Make sure to use a kennel when indoors!
  • Use a kennel when indoors (e.g. terminal, parking lot). However, leashes (around 50 cm) and strollers are allowed in unavoidable circumstances.
Keep your pet leashed at 50 cm in length!
  • The airport is a facility which many other people use together. Make sure to keep your pet by your side at all times in consideration of other passengers.
Dangerous dogs are limited to arrival/departure!
  • To ensure safety, dangerous dog breeds* must be kept in a kennel and are limited to arrival/departure.
    * Tosa, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Rottweiler
Pick up and dispose of pet waste!
  • Prepare a bag and tissue, and make sure to immediately pick up and dispose of pet waste. If you do not have a waste bag, please go to the Info Desk.

Please note that you may be not allowed to use the airport if you cause discomfort to other passengers in the airport.

Departures

You must check and meet animal quarantine requirements for pets (e.g. dog, cat) such as from the animal quarantine agency in your destination country or the Embassy in Korea.

Before arrival
  • When you bring your pet (e.g. dog, cat) to Korea from another country, you must have a health certificate certified by that exporting country.

Additional documentation is required for Australia and Malaysia, so make sure to prepare such documentation before you depart from your country.

On board
  • Fill out any item subject to quarantine inspection in your customs declaration form (Traveler Declaration Form) handed out by flight attendants on board.
Animal quarantine
  • Fill out any item subject to quarantine inspection in your customs declaration form (Traveler Declaration Form) handed out by flight attendants on board, and submit the form to the animal quarantine official along with a health certificate certified by the exporting country before passing through customs.
  • Your pet will be sent back if there is no health certificate.
  • Your pet will be sent back if there is no health certificate, and you are required to receive quarantine inspection if any requirement on the certificate is not met.
