The Airport Industry Technology Research Institute
has set its sights on becoming a global leader
in aviation research.
Initially established as a dedicated research department within Incheon International Airport Corporation in 2010, the institute was upgraded to a corporate-affiliated research center in 2015. Since its inception, the institute has been committed to advancing the domestic production of core airport facility products, optimizing operational processes, enhancing customer convenience, and laying the groundwork for the future aviation industry. Through rigorous research, we have striven to ensure safe, convenient, and efficient airport operations by addressing both technical innovations and management/policy issues related to airport operations. To boost our technical research capabilities, we have participated in research and development projects sponsored by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and the Small and Medium Business Administration. Our achievements include the development of domestically produced core components for Baggage Handling Systems (BHS), creation of an automatic Foreign Object Debris (FOD) detection system, localization of AC-GPS technology, and development of PC-AIR system for aircraft cooling and heating. In addition, we have led independent R&D projects that shape the future of airport technology such as development of FIDS, airport pavement design methodologies, and standardized air quality assessment systems. Beyond research, we have been working to commercialize our research outcomes such as high-voltage insulated cable connectors for airport lighting, domestically developed A-VDGS, and various BHS components, successfully completing the localization of six BHS components and increasing our technological self-reliance. Furthermore, in 2015, we established a management/policy research team to broaden our research scope in the areas of airport operations, management, and policy. Such expansion includes increasing our research personnel and intensifying our research efforts to support continually Incheon Airport’s hub strategy, route value expansion, sustainable financial stability, and other core competencies essential for airport operations. Through these efforts, the Airport Industry Technology Research Institute will support Incheon Airport’s management and shareholders in making strategic decisions in the short term while remaining dedicated to positioning itself as a think tank that contributes to the long-term development of South Korea’s aviation industry. Thank you.
