Before the phase 3 construction, there were the main control tower and the apron control tower 1, which had been built during the phase 1 and phase 2, respectively. However, upon completion of the Terminal 2 construction, the existing control towers alone could no longer handle the operation of the entire airport efficiently.

To get rid of blind spots in control and improve efficiency in airport operation, the phase 3 construction built the apron control tower 2 in the scale of 94.2m2 (0.009ha)in height with one underground and 13 above-ground floors.

From the beginning, apron control tower 2 was designed to be of a similar height to the main control tower (100.4m(34.1 ft)) so that it can perform the roles of the main control tower in emergency situations.

Also, the structure reflects the results of the wind tunnel tests to secure safety in rescue from typhoons, etc. and has vibration control facilities installed in the top floors for the highest-level earthquake-proof design.
